I hate writing negative reviews, because I sometimes feel maybe it was just me (I'm definitely not part of the teen audience this book was geared toward) and not the book that was the problem. But after sleeping on it, I decided I ought to at least let other possible readers know how this book came across to me.'Burning Britely' is a short book, more of a novella length. That wasn't a problem, some of my favorite reads have been short works. In fact, I really enjoyed the first half of this third person story. But, as 'Burning' progressed, I think it could have used some more description as to why events happened as they did. Jeff, the most important character, isn't a likable person through much of the book, but that was okay. Braeden, the other main character, is a very likable person, with issues at home.I don't like to retell the book in my reviews, so I'm not going to go into any details, but I felt Braeden's relationship with his mother was very unbelievable. After it occurred, I wondered to myself, 'what's going on here?'. That was probably where the book began to lose its luster for me. After that, events happened, mostly to Jeff, that I couldn't understand. As I mentioned earlier, maybe a little more description as to why would have made them more believable.Anyway, I think possible readers who are on the fence about this book, probably ought to give it a pass.
I kept seeing this pop up on my recommendations but kept passing it up and finally decided to give it a try. The storyline was strong as well as the character development. Honestly, this had better characters then a lot of some MM romance books I've read recently so I would recommend it.
Astonishing coming of age for two deeply flawed MC’s, yet relatable and endearing. Refreshing take on nerd falls for jock trope, but the substance and context of the story transcends the trope. Recommendable to burgeoning young LGBT adolescents seeking purpose and acceptance within themselves and society at large.
I love that. Love isn't black and white. Love isn't straight or gay or bi. It can be anything. It is everything.
Short read, not too much dramatic action. I offensive but not something I’ll remember more than a few days. But generally positive storyline even if the character development came way too quickly...
Interesting characters - starting as one-dimensional, stereotypical adolescent labels evolving to independent individuals examining & defining themselves authentically. Quick, entertaining read!

Jeffrey is such a character. Braeden was so patient. Maya is a great friend. I presume there will be sequel.
