Paige Baltzan teaches in the Department of Information Technology and Electronic Commerce at the Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver. She holds a B.S.B.A. specializing in Accounting/MIS from Bowling Green State University and an M.B.A. specializing in MIS from the University of Denver. The price I got this book for was 1/4 of the price from everywhere else here on Amazon which thrills me. Shipping was excellent and the item arrived very quickly in perfect condition as advertised. But if you do not need this book for college then there has to be a bazillion better books on UML (Unified Markup Language). The book is really out there with lots of contradictory information and so esoteric that I am really dreading the mid-terms and the finals. Nothing is explained clearly and instead leaves you confused and dazed about UML and the procedures used. There are many accurate and valuable points in the book but the way they are presented is illogical and the practice quiz questions from the author often have answers that differ from what the book teaches. All in all, a sloppy attempt at explaining UML and a book I likely will sell once I am done with the class. I am looking for better reference books to support UML. Many college professors choose textbooks like these because the indexes are poor and it makes testing and preparing for exams very difficult. They have grading percentages to maintain, you know.

As other reviewers have stated, this "international" edition really does not differ from the "US" version that I can tell. I have this book in 3 different formats and they all looks the same. Could save a good bit of money going this route if you don't have the ebook version readily available.

It was exactly what I needed for class. Didn’t have a lot of writing or damage in it. I returned it on time but never found out if it got back to the place correctly. Hopefully it did.

I had to buy this book for a graduate class and after paying the premium for this book I am severely disappointed.The general information is good with introduction to concepts I am already too familiar with. It presents ideas in a simple to understand format like you would expect to see in a freshman year introduction to IT for business textbook.There is an opening case study for the first unit which cover Chapter one through five and this leads to a case study question on every chapter on how the concepts learned applies to Apple.The problem with this concept is that while Apple has enjoyed a competitive advantage for a while (and at the time this book was written) competitive advantages are not permanent and at he present time the book relates too much to apple computers' business model whereas in reality that is not the best business model for learning business IT.The book does not go into much deatils, it is a high level oveview of IT for business and should be treated as such with every chapter containg less than 10 pages of actual learning information. Defitnitely not for a graduate class.

Horribly written book... could have been written better by a 1st year college student. Author's thoughts seem to wander at times, throwing in a bunch of non-related items that are just included to fill the short chapters, making it hard to read at times. Not very good at presenting concepts. Only gave it 2 stars because the chapters are short.

Just needed the book for college, and great condition and does the job, but.... There was some crusty old flowers between pages in the book... I'll leave them there because maybe they're there for a reason... i dont know

I got this for my MIS class at PSU. We only used a few pages in it, and I really didn't need the book it seems. Though, it was the exact same book as the "American" edition, just a different cover and a cheaper price. Win for me.

Praises how "great" RF-ID tagging is, and a lot of fluff about common sense stuff you would know running a business.Forced to buy for an MBA course, it's easy, but don't like the required jamming in of this mandatory info of what the government and big corporations want.

This book is not for beginning stone students or metaphysical newbies. Read Vols 1 and 2 first at your leisure and, if you get that part of your purpose for being here on the Earth at this time is to learn, evolve and perhaps teach and leave something better behind, then this book is for you. Recommend small doses punctuated by the work and self-evolution Katrina describes. A seminal work, deep and wide and incredibly well done.

This is Volume III (1990) in a series of 3 very well written and very useful books by Katrina. Volume I is "Crystal Enlightenment" (19xx). Volume II is "Crystal Healing" (1987). You probably want to read these volumes in order unless you already know some of this crystal and energy stuff. Volume III is a little more "out there" but only to those who are new to this stuff.I guess you could say that Volume III is for the person with some crystal and energy knowledge already. Assuming you know about the 7 chakras (energy centers/wheels within the human body), Katrina refers to 8 to 12 (major) charkas, 3 above the crown charka, one in the belly button (in addition to the one in the solar plexus), and one below the root charka. There are also secondary charkas in the palm of each hand, and other places (which those who do energy work already know).Katrina talks about the predominant power stones: selenite, kyanite, calcite, and hematite and layout using the. She provides information on additional crystals: the Dow crystal, the Tantric Twins (crystal), the Isis crystal, the Cathedral Lightbraries, the Devic Temple crystals, the Time Link crystals and additional healing stones: Blue Lace Agate, Celestite, Charoite, and others. There is even a chapter for crystal healing for the prevention and treatment of Aids.If you are really interested in stones and crystals and their possible relationship to healing, knowledge and so much more, I suggest this series of all 3 books by Katrina. I also suggest "Love Is In The Earth" by Melody. Yes, that is her name, just like music. Once upon a time, I laughed at the thought of people believing crystals were more than just rocks. Now I have wisdom. (We all make mistakes.)If you can agree to suspend your disbelief briefly enough to read and absorb this material, you can open yourself up to a whole additional level of understanding far beyond what you ever thought possible. Pros:- One of the most interesting military novels I've read in years- great action scenes and plot, up until the ending- see below- Well-developed characters- Very good writing style, with only a few minor editing errorsCons:- Some of the military jargon was over the top and acronyms not explained- PC inclusions added nothing to the story- it was as if the author felt he needed to check a few liberal blocks:- One of the main characters turns out to be gay and one of the female is either Lesbian/Bi/ or Questioning. He got four of the 5 LGBQT blocks checked, but their sexual orientation had absolutely nothing to do with the story line in any way.- Climate Change/Global Warming. Minor spoiler: it was all about Russia running out of water in the near future due to CC/GW. We are to believe that all the lakes, rivers, and snow in Russia will no longer exist in the near future. Really?- Spoiler: The contrived ending that convinced a Russian General who was winning the war to call off the war because of one small child after a cell phone conversation with the embattled U.S. ambassador to Russia. Ridiculous.

FX Holden is a find. The intelligence required to keep the reader buried in all the military lingo, technology, thinking, culture, geo politics, and personalities to such an unrelenting degree is humbling. This book achieves all that while still being an action thriller. Quite a feat. At the end of the book, he informs the reader that the inspiration for the book is "Dawn Attack" by Brian Callison. Sounds like something worth looking into if you like this book. I checked into his other works (experiments) on Goodreads. A Sci-fi book and a cop story. I'm reading them both. The cop story is funny so beware, humor is a subjective thing. What has me laughing out loud might leave you cold. The Sci-fi story starts off with a straight forward death of an alien. I'm still reading. Both seem interesting. Very talented guy.

It is extremely rare for me to read a book of fiction written by a woman; call it sexist if you wish, but that's just the way it is (I don't think for a moment I'm the only guy who feels this way). This book is an admirable exception. It held my interest from beginning to end with clever and very well written scenes right through to the final one.

Beautifully paced and edge of your seat exciting. You don't need to be a technology whizz to enjoy this cleverly plotted and brilliantly executed story. The characters are complex, believable, likable (even the bad guys) and well developed as the story progresses. I confess to skipping some of the technical descriptions of the various aircraft and weaponry but the story holds it own and then some. I hope FX Holden is busy writing the next book. I hate waiting. Highly recommended.

This is not my normal go to topic. I enjoyed the storyline and the characters. The military aspect was interesting and the action was good. I kind of glazed over some of the areas discussing military rank and procedure. If you like this style of book than it is well worth the time reading Bering Strait.

This is probably the best book I have read in several years.The author has made a very informed, very convincing future extrapolation of present day weaponry in 2035, and wrapped it into a chilling realistic war plot between the U S and Russia with no punches pulled.Excellent characterizations, excellent plot development, excellent dialogue.Six stars!

Holden crafted an excellent story with great action and even has developed good characters and shows a solid grasp of current and projected relations between us, USA, and the Evil Empire currently run by that terrorist dictator Putin. Holden presented aircraft and avionics and Electronic Warfare technology in an exce.optional way. Holden has written a story that deserves to be a movie. Of course I am one who gravitatess to stories where Russia is an enemy after all my family has fought the Russian monsters for generations. Looking forward to Holden's next book.

This is a very interesting story of a situation that might occur in the future. It is told in a wonderful style giving the story from both sides. It also combines very different perspectives from different type of military personnel. It is a truly gripping story that will leave you think "What if?". Very well written.

I have an older print version. It is indispensable but it weighs 20#.Living on the road without it, I thought I'd get the Kindle version and have it in my lap top.But, many illustrations (especially those of printed tables) are presented at too low a resolution to read easily on a 1,900 x 1080 monitor.Because of this, the Kindle book fails to transmit to the reader significant parts of the information the authors worked so hard to present.I was given a refund and I appreciate that.... but I'd rather have the book in a form that works.Note to the Publisher: Fix the problem, issue a statement that you have done so, & I'll buy the book again

Great reference book, I've been using for a few classes in ChE. Goes right next to my other bible, the CRC Handbook.I guess I was only surprised at how much of a monster this book is, can't exactly carry it to class. It's like 7lbs and 4 inches thick.

Best reference book I've purchased. A lot of it is pretty specific but if you're looking to say... calculate the vapor pressure of a refrigerant then this is the book for you!

Perry's has improved since the 6th edition of the mid-80's. The eighth edition does what it is supposed to do: provide a broad coverage of our sprawling profession. I like it that it provides comparison tables for equipment allowing an engineer to identify which unit operation works best for a given material or operating conditions. Also, the superior graphics have returned. There has been some re-shuffling of sections and the number of pages have grown substantially to cover such new topics as security and inherently safe design in Process Safety and solids handling. These topics were ignored in previous editions. The economics section has been expunged from the eighth; this is sad since so many of my peers have forgotten the importance of this section to our profession.This version of Perry's has returned to my side shell. The 6th serves as a stop in my basement bookshelf. The 4th remains on the main shelf.If this review was helpful, please add your vote.

The book's pages were not cut properly. I have paper strips coming out the book.. the paper is also very delicate and thin. I suggest you buy from an individual seller with a solid reputation.

great reference for everything, just wish the print (hardcopy) can be larger for my old eyes

This is a great reference for any chemical engineer. I originally purchased this for the PE exam as an additional reference, but find good use at work. I believe the material is also available electronically, but I find the hard copy handy for my use.

I saw a few other reviews that gave poor marks for the informative tables being reduced to very small ( and unreadable ) images, but purchased this edition anyway. That was a big mistake. The print edition is comparable in price and infinitely more useful. I had seen PDFs floating around and assumed that the Kindle edition would be of comparable quality, but legal. IT IS NOT.This edition also seems to lack matching page references to the print edition, which makes it worth even less as it cannot be as efficiently used to follow references from other texts.DO NOT BUY. The tables that you are buying this access are not usable.

Another great Gary Paulsen book. My 13-year-old son cannot get enough of them. Always a classic.

One of my favorite books. I remember reading it when I was a fourth grader back in the nineties and I would compare it to my own lifestyle of growing up in the Upper Midwest. Remembered the book recently and bought it for my kindle to take with me to the treestand. Think I read it in after one or two hunts. Now it reminds me of my childhood and the feelings I would get in the outdoors. Simply awesome book even though it is an easier read (meant for young adults). Still you can tell Paulsen put his heart into it. Wish there were more authors who wrote with that kind of passion about the outdoors.

My grandson, 14, hunter and fisherman, enjoyed this book. I liked the writing, as well.

As always Paulson is a favorite and I have read all over twice and I am83. Hurrah

I was disappointed in the condition of the book. When I purchased the book the seller rated it as A+ good conditon but it had a tears in the cover. The story is GREAT and the person I gave it to was very excited that I had found it but I was very disappointed in the condition of the book itself.

Very good book it shows how the kids back then lived and how they managed to do what they loved while they supported their family

Yes very good book I read small parts as i Deer hunt from my Deer Tree Stand . My 3 Sons try to get it from time to time .will pass it on when done

Paulsen writes about seasons in his hometown being determined by types of fish caught down by the dam, under the Ninth street bridge, or in frozen lakes, and not by dates on calendars. When fishing ends, hunting is the obsession for Paulsen and friends he calls "orphans of the woods." He explains, "When we were in the woods or fishing the rivers and lakes our lives didn't hurt."This book is a nature lover's choice. Paulsen writes of growing up in a small Minnesota town and he intertwines this town's life with stories of adventurous boys. Two of my favorite essays are "Running the River" and "Bow Hunting." The first is a hilarious tale of an overplanned camping trip gone wrong when the boat, full of supplies and boys, sinks, forcing the boys to walk back to town. "Bow Hunting" is a coming of age essay in which a boy, after killing his first doe, poignantly describes his realization that while his life will continue, hers will not.

I was a little put off by her recommendation on how to get around the law for luring deer during hunting season. It's illegal to spread food on the ground, but if you grow a garden with items they like, it is legal to shoot them. Doesn't seem sporting to me. She spends a lot of time on boring names of animals and plants, and not as much as I hoped about the uniqueness of the animals.

The author is obviously an intelligent woman who had put a lot of thought and effort into this book which, by the way, is not a cute cat book. It is interesting at worst and fascinating at best. However, I have never seen so many mistakes in one book. Words are misspelled; corrections are put in along with what they corrected; spaces appear in the middle of words; line breaks occur in the middle of words; duplications appear and various other oddities throughout the book. There were so many mistakes in the opening that I nearly put the book aside. I persevered and it would go along beautifully for pages and then relapse into gibberish.I'm glad I read it and would recommend it, but surely wish it had been edited or at least proofread. In these days of spell and grammar checks, there is no excuse for the quality of this publication. Very disappointing.

To explain my rating: Four stars for the actual book. Janet Lembke's writing is, as always, graceful and interesting. Unfortunately, the Kindle version is very poorly copyedited, so it only gets two stars. Average is three stars.

Naturalist Lembke's essays on the hidden lives of everyday creatures focus on our interaction with them, most often as pets, pests or sustenance.The brief title essay (also the source of the book's irresistible cover) discusses the evolution of the house cat from Egyptian times, when it was deified and mummified, to the untamability even today of certain feral cats and the much studied but still unsolved mystery of the purr.She explores the lives and the perpetual gardener's battle against groundhogs, deer and slugs (and no, she does not provide the long-sought solution), profiles animals that serve as pets or food, such as chickens and turtles, and recounts backyard dramas like the hunt of a resident hawk and the ice-laden crash of a red maple.Each encounter inspires rumination on the creatures' history, biology, folklore and daily existence. We learn about the disgusting and efficient glory of hermaphroditic slug sex, the life cycle of carpenter bees, and the cruelty of using have-a-heart traps on woodchucks for whom transportation to a territory not their own is a death sentence as certain as a bullet.Lembke also profiles the people who dedicate themselves to studying or caring for some of these creatures, like Suzanne, whose turtles have the run of the house and who scratch on the sliding glass door to go out. Or Sarah Hirsch who studies the sense of smell in mice and once made the mistake of getting attached to the cute little babies.An avid gardener, Lembke has a respectful, unsentimental view of animals, boundless curiosity in the world around her and a wry sense of humor. Her essays will appeal to anyone who's ever cursed a woodchuck or paused at the kitchen window to watch the drama going on outside, and been struck, even for a moment, by all the mysterious coexistence going on around us.

NOT a cute and cozy read about cats as the cover/title implies. I was unable to finish the book due to its INCREDIBLY poor editing (too frustrating). It's unfortunate... it may have otherwise been a very interesting read. For what I did read, I would give it 4.5 stars for its educational value.
