If I hadn't dripped on the several pages of recipes I've tried in this book, I'd return it. I consider myself a fairly experienced non-professional cook and have successfully made a lot of fudge, baking, candy, etc. So I have been able to "rescue" the recipes I've made from the book even though the directions are incomplete and clearly untested. Case in point: red-pepper praline crunch. Proportions of water and sugar do NOT result in anything near crunchy - tried TWICE and the pecans were soggy and drowning. No estimated timings given for any steps. Butter pecan ice cream - directions to melt brown sugar in browned butter and add cream (no directions to heat the cream). This gets you a lard hard LUMP of hardened brown sugar.... I'm done and tossing the book. When I spend money on quality ingredients and have to dump them out, I know the recipe has not been tested. I must be spoiled by Cooks Illustrated with their explicit, clear, tested recipes. 1 star for creative ingredient ideas.

Like all books of this kind it is missing tons of recipes to qualify for the title. I could do a better book myself with dozens of missing recipes. However if you want to make some unusual Ice Creams like Cashew it includes a good recipe. Want to make Plum Ice Cream and need to know how much plum to use this book will solve that problem. His techniques often need improvement and changes but it really fills in for item like Almond & Amaretto Ice Cream which are never even mentioned in most Ice Cream books. It can help you develop even better Ice Creams or sorbets from those listed as I have already done a few times. Yes, it has a few odd recipes but most are perfectly edible.

I've had this book on my shelf for years and only recently have had a chance to use it--finally got an ice cream maker! It's a great starter book--the recipes are simple, straightforward, and plentiful. It runs the gamut from your more "pedestrian" flavors (like vanilla, chocolate, etc.) to things like sweet potato and ginger.The recipes overall seem to be lighter than other ice cream recipes out there--relying on more milk (as opposed to cream) and fewer eggs. The results still have been creamy and delicious, despite being (somewhat) healthier.The coffee ice cream recipe, by the way, is exceptional!I do wish there was more information on the hows and whys of ice cream making, but overall, it satisfies (especially for a book collecting dust unused for years!).

awesome book! Made my first ice cream the Ginger one and added lime juice YUMMMY! Made the Honey Mead-Honey ice cream with 1/4 cup whiskey. I would cut down on the whiskey, maybe use half as much; it was awfully strong, but still good!

I just got my new ice cream maker and I purchased this book and the book "Gelato!" to get started. I found this book to be my favorite of the two. It is fairly straightforward and no-frills, and it's not the type of book to sit and read in an armchair ("Gelato!" is that type of book, with a history of Gelato making and rich text and accompanying photos). But this book has several recipes (rich to not-as-rich) for the basic flavors, and offers several variations on most of the recipes (such as grapefruit-kiwi sorbet after the main recipe for grapefruit sorbet).Most of the recipes appear to be very easy to follow. If there is a complicated recipe, it's good bet he offers a simpler one for the same flavor, with a clear description of what the differences in your final product are likely to be. I haven't used my machine that much yet, but I have found the recipes I have tried from this book to be easy to make, with delicious results. It doesn't offer gelato recipes, but has many many ice cream, sorbet and frozen yogurt recipes. I think it will be a very useful companion to anyone's ice cream making at home.

The key lime becomes key lime pie with a simple addition. Wide range of choices from several versions of vanilla to the exotic. I bought a copy for a friend and gave it to her with a maker as a wedding present. She has made ice cream 5 times a week the last three weeks! Great ideas and it can also serve the more experienced cook as a jumping off point.Thrifty, too. I used scraps from freezing fruit, followed the basic formula, and I'll bet my apricot sorbet can beat anything made by a commercial source. I even used it with my diet drink powder and made S--m F--t into an ice cream treat. You can control what goes into your product. Great for diabetics or other restricted diets. You can do non-dairy if you're lactose intolerant. Fun for kids, too. Let them help you invent variations. This book is a must-have for anybody who wants to make ice cream.

The story of Armin Scheiderbauer an German infantry officer fighting on the Eastern Front. Scheiderbauer, who was wounded six times describes life from the first day of training through his release by Russians in 1947. The unique detailed perspective of German soldier fighting a war that went from elation of victory to the horror of the impending defeat at the hand of the Allies. I enjoyed the book, and couldn't put it down. I found it to be an excellent book for a memoir.

This book gives a lot of explanation into the German mindset that allowed young Germans to embrace another war, after the carnage and losses of World War I.Lots of pages devoted to training, family, travel during the war, front line retreats and logistical activities (finding and eating food, trying to sleep ).Only about five pages, where the author engages the Russians in combat. No mention that the Germans are invading another country, destroying it in every way. The military mindset of the author is guided by the thought of religious, Godly protection, as well as the assumption that military service and going to war has no honorable equal. Schopenhauer is Austrian, but his outlook is quite Prussian. No pictures on Kindle.

This is a pretty good account by a young German soldier on the Eastern Front, although much of the book describes things other than life at the front--his friends, family, training, life in the barracks, etc. But there is plenty of interesting material here, including how German soldiers from different regions got along, the deterioration of the Wehrmacht's quality as the war drew to a close, etc. Given the author's position, it should not be surprising that the accounts of the fighting are from the foxhole level, with little context or "big picture".

It is one thing to tell a story of being in the military during World War II, but quite another story of how a man endured the war on the Eastern Front. This book is a remarkable remembrance of a soldier's survival with Nazi Germany and how he endured the war and later, as a POW in the Soviet Union, to return to Austria as one of the few men returned two years after the war ended. Scheiderbaur was a young officer cadet in 1941, but by 1945 he was a captain leading what remained of a battalion. His patriotism was not to the NSDAP but to Austria and his homeland. I love reading journalistic accounts written by the men or women who endured the history they were making. This memoir would be an excellent assignment for any classes covering Modern European History, WW II History, and Soviet or German History from high school through college level grad classes. An excellent book which is more informative than shocking and a truly great read for any military historian.

Clearly an intelligent writer with a great memory for details. Very vividly and realistically written so the reader can really get into the autobiografical story of the very intense experiences of a young German soldier.

One of the least interesting accounts of a soldier in wartime. Half the book was about the author's friends and fellow countrymen and their personal histories. The book was written for his daughter, who may have been familiar with some of these people.

I found this glimpse into the life of a young Wehrmacht officer absolutely fascinating. As Americans, most of the attention given to German soldiers from WWII is on the western front. Not only is this a perspective from the eastern front and the mid-war to final Russian offensives, this man was also taken prisoner and survived Russian captivity.

Readers will not want to put this down, once they get into the horrible realities of the war on the Eastern Front in World War 2. They will experience the shocks and fear of soldiers who in time recognize that there will be no great victory this time for the fatherland. The German troops are as professional as they can be made to be, but they encounter greater numbers and greater persistence than they had ever imagined. It is interesting to witness this realization spread among the troops.

Anyone can get into real estate but it is hard work and a marathon.

Matt does a fantastic job outlining and summarizing all the moving parts of financing real estate deals. From the purchasing of a simple flip to the underwriting and syndication of a large apartment complex, he discusses the many options a real estate investor can use to expand their real estate portfolio (whether it's from family, friends, colleagues, banks or even complete strangers). Definitely worthwhile and a must read!

I had never read a medical romance before – I didn’t quite know what to expect, and I wasn’t sure I would enjoy it – but Amy Andrews is a favourite author of mine, so I took a chance, and I’m so happy I did! I must say that Hamish is a totally dreamy hero, and I fell in love with him much quicker than Lola did; he is honestly everything I look for a male protagonist in a romance novel: he’s straightforward, he is naturally sexy; he doesn’t come across as arrogant, but full of honest self-confidence; he’s a caring individual and he understands Lola’s concern given that he is a paramedic, and she an ICU nurse. Amy Andrews’ own background as a nurse gives much credibility and authenticity to the story, and the hospital drama is exciting, enlightening as it deals at some point with organ transplant. I also loved how the medical and romance parts flowed so seamlessly to form a smooth and very compelling narrative.Hamish is a country boy at heart; he thrives on stability, Lola a nomad, and while their attraction and fondness for each other, I had no idea how they would ever work together to find their happily ever after. Hamish is open to compromise, but Lola not so much, and how they finally found a way was just fabulous. I loved that neither Hamish nor Lola assumed that their relationship was off-limits: Grace warns Lola quite specifically that it is not a good idea. I enjoyed the vivid descriptions of the Australian setting, and I had to google those jacaranda flowers to see for myself what they looked like – they play a very important part in the story. The writing is, naturally, flawless, the banter between Hamish and Lola so normal and delightful; I loved this romance so much because it felt normal, it was entirely believable from beginning to end; it felt like it could happen to me, like this is what true love really should be. I have nothing but very good things to say about TEMPTED BY MR. OFF-LIMITS: it is a quick read, perfectly paced, and utterly lovely and delightful!I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I am not one that reads a lot of medical romance. I am glad I took a chance and read Lola and Hamish’s story.Lola had a gypsy heart and decided she would never marry or settle down anywhere permanently just like her Great Aunt May. She grew up in the country and planned to never return to that way of life. She enjoys her job as an ICU nurse and feels fulfilled in her career. She doesn’t want to be tied down by love.Hamish was a country boy at heart and wanted to work as an acute care paramedic in the rural areas. He loved a challenge and was in town for extra training before taking on a rural post. He also just happens to be Lola’s best friend’s brother.I loved how the two developed a relationship and fulfilled the needs in each other’s life. Hamish had a kindness about him that Lola needed. She also provided comfort in his life when he needed it. I like stories that show the human emotion and this is one of them.I received a copy from the author to read and review. All feelings and words are my own opinion.

Amy Andrews is truly a gifted storyteller. She is quickly becoming a must read author for me. What I like is that her stories and her characters are relatable. Nothing is contrived or overworked. The day to day lives of her characters are grounded in a reality that is genuine, heartbreaking, and inspiring. It's clear the author has a connection to the medical profession and that allows her to bring the reader further into the story. Andrews is one of those authors that writes romance and tells a story at the same time.Hamish...wow!! He's really is everything a book boyfriend is supposed to be. He's the perfect daydream. Lola, I have to say, is a frustrating young woman and I thoroughly enjoyed watching her take the fall into love. The shared understanding of their jobs, the ups and downs, makes their romance so much more solid and sweet and enviable. There is nothing not to love about this book.

MS Andrews always writes a book that is sure to leave me a very happy reader and this one is no exception, I have just had a lovely steamy, sizzling and moving journey to a gorgeous HEA with two very opposite people (or maybe they are not) one city one country, but both so very much attracted to each other that staying just friends is not going to happen.Lola Fraser is an ICU nurse in a big city hospital she works hard and loves her job and is fun-loving single gypsy, she longs to travel like her great aunt. She grew up in the sticks and getting out of Doongabi was the best thing she had done, but when she offers to share her apartment with her best friend’s brother Hamish Gibson the world as Lola knows it is turning, sex for fun and de-stressing is changing the way she feels.Hamish is a real country boy and when he comes to the city to take a course to further him in his paramedic career staying with Lola for a few months should be easy and fun even if they had shared a very steamy night together a few months before that was only to help her sleep that night. But when there is a tragedy in the city and both Hamish and Lola are emotionally affected this brings them back together and Hamish is losing his heart to the girl who is always going to be single.This really is a beautiful story with heart wrenching cases on the road for Hamish and in the ICU for Lola and together they lean on each other but Lola is still determined to be single and travel the world and she is stunned that Hamish falls in love with her, this doesn’t sit well with her and then when a closer loss for Lola makes her see that there is room in her caravan for two the world is a happier place for her and Hamish. I loved this one from start to finish, fabulous moving story with sizzle to boot and yes it left me smiling, lovely location and Christmas and New Year, this is one that I highly recommend.

In my youth I read Jung's autobiography (Memory, Dreams and Reflections) and it was pivotal. This biography is a great follow up, with a selection of writings by Jung connected with a chronological narrative about him by Dunne combined with an interesting and beautiful assortment of art - both Jung's and a wide range of relevant ancient and modern material, as well as a generous selection of photos of him. It all creates a rich and evocative glimpse of the man, his vision and impact. For anyone interested in Jung I'd recommend starting with his autobiography, but then to not miss this."The main interest of my work is not concerned with the treatment of neurosis but rather with the approach to the numinous....which is the real therapy." (pg. 3)

Jung once asked, "Why can't they see me as a human being?" There are just a few books I have -- among the thousands I have read -- that are so magnificent that I stand in awe of how anyone could possibly have written them. This book is impossibly beautiful. I can't imagine how Claire Dunne came by this magic, but I will pay her the highest compliment. I have had the most remarkable respect for Jung, whom I study endlessly. I admired his immense psychological courage, stunning intuition, and remarkable intellect. After I read this book, I loved him. Don't miss this. Really, don't miss this.

I love this book! It traces with narrative and images how Jung was a natural art therapist (although it does not directly say that but demonstrates it) beginning as a child through adulthood. A very easy book to understand about Jung and probably the most beautiful images you will find other than in the Red Book. I used this book to assist teaching an undergraduate class at SSU in art therapy and Carl Jung. We went through all the same art processes that Jung did to explore individuation and Jung's theories. As a Jungian, I have read quite a few biographies of Jung. But this one is especial, because it put together a lot of material gathered from Jung's collected works, his autobiography Memories, Dreams, Reflections, his letters and several biographies that came before the year 2000, when this book was first published. In addition, it carries a profusion of pictures and drawings, making the reading very pleasant.I suggest that reading this book is must for whoever wants to delve deeply on Jung's life and ideas, even for the persons that have already read other biographies.I am Roberto Lima Netto, a writer of Jungian books The Jungian Bible,The Little Prince for Grownups, and of psychological thriller The Amazon Shaman,In Search of Happiness

Fabulous, fabulous, fabulous. A gorgeous book, beautifully illustrated. The information, sorted from such a vast store of Jung's writings, letters to and from him, and other biographical sources, is done with an exquisite sense of love and understanding. I immediately bought another copy for a friend.

This summary of Jung's life written by Claire Dunne is an excellent way of looking at the various and important contributions he made and his personal life as well. I thought it an amazing book. The author did a thorough job of coverage and yet kept it simple and easy to read. It has made me want to read Jung's own works and get a more in-depth look at this unique and important man.

This is one of the finest books I've ever read. Dunn is lucid and illuminating in her presentation of Jung. Most of the text is, Jung quoted. But the arrangement is everything. Reads like a scared text. Exquisite images lend depth and breadth to the reading experience, as does the heavy satin finish paper of the pages. A sensuous experience for mind and body. This is one of my most cherished books.
