A great book into the world of understanding numbers underlying business performance. The author has done a remarkable job of simplifying the complex world of value investing and security analysis for the layman. Book provides an overview of basic financial instruments such as Bonds, Stocks, Funds, and Indexes as well as goes into detail of how to calculate a business' intrinsic value. In addition, author also suggests benchmark values for key performance ratios such as a less than 15 for PE ratio, a <0.5 for D/E ratio, an expected 7% or more YOY increase on BV (per share), a <1.5 for current ratio and others. Besides helping the reader understand the world of investing, share mechanisms for making money, the book also urges - albeit very briefly - the reader to understand why make a lot of money and what it may mean to others who do not have as much. Author also provides videos to explain all the concepts in the book on his website, which further solidify learning.The reason for giving this book one star short of five is that the author relied heavily on the layout of MSN Money website, which seems to have changed significantly since the publication of this book. There is no longer a navigation bar on the left hand side nor could I find a 10 year summary for various ratios on the site. I find it shortsighted on author's part to write a long lasting document against a short lived website design. Other than that, this book is really good.

This is not for people who know value investing and want insight into Warren Buffett's particular brand of value investing. It is, however, an excellent introduction to investing itself. The examples are clear, relevant and the pacing is excellent for beginners. I don't hang out with the B-meister so I can't say if Pysh's interpretation of the Buffett method is accurate or not. I've read Graham's Intelligent Investor and Mary Buffett's Buffetology and the core fundamentals are shared between the works. Pysh's interpretation is book value centric while Mary Buffett loves the term durable competative advantage and is more return on total capital.If stocks are just things in your mutual fund or that thing you bought because it looked like a good deal, this book is an excellent entry into the world of investing.

This book gives it's readers such a wealth of investing wisdom, that by the time your finished with it you'll swear you will be investing like Warren Buffett in no time. The concepts are explained in a straight-forward and easy to understand style. And there are lots of online links in the e-book that will keep you busy for a long time. The most important investment of all, could be the one you make in yourself!

Yes, the title and marketing posture is shamelessly mercenary, calculated to cash-in on the Buffet name and brand.Yes, the first section really and truly is about a kid running a lemonade stand.But.I'm glad I bought and read the book.Surprisingly, given the bait and switch of using Buffet's name and branding and given that his three "favorite" books are barely mentioned, their content not delved into, and serve only as launching points -- the author has written an honest and sincere book.I'll repeat that: This is an honest and sincere book.And useful.If, like me, you grew up without anyone actually TEACHING you about money, let alone stocks and bonds, the extended and hookey lemonade stand metaphor actually works. You WILL learn the fundamentals of stocks and bonds by examining the kid's adventures in retailing lemonade. (Our schools still do not teach students about money. Osmosis is good for nourishing plants, but if you really want to help people avoid poverty and pain and dependency, teach them about money; what it is, why it is, how it can be used. This author seems to be attempting to do just that, and for those well-intentioned reasons.)The author does the math, and breaks it down so you can do the math on yor own. You could of course read Graham's classic, The Intelligent Investor, and do the math on your own. But gee whiz, it is always easier faster and more efficient if you have a decent teacher to help you. And, if you're like me, you can read through the whole book (it's not too long) and then go back and do the math, applying it to the real world of companies you're considering investing in. (I do think it would be best to read Graham's Intelligent Investor BEFORE reading this book. Going to the source text first is almost always better than reading what has been derived from that source.)All of this is my longwinded way of saying, if you are hesitating and not sure if you should buy this book, go ahead. Put aside its used car salesman title/marketing. The content (the author's work) is forthright, honest, transparent. (Besides, you have 14 days to return the book for a refund if your experience is different from mine!So what's to worry? Go for it. ;-)PS: I haven't tried his videos yet, but probably will.

This book is fantastic! I currently hold an MBA and I've studied all the great books on Warren Buffett and Ben Graham for the past 8 years and all I can say is that this is one of the greatest books on value investing that I have ever read. It's a very simple to follow book and the main points on value investing are clearly laid out and easy to understand. I wish I would have had this book 8 years ago when I was starting out in this field. Also, the videos on his website are awesome. The videos go into greater detail from what the book covers so you get a good overall complementary course between the book and videos. He also has a forum on his website where you can ask questions and he helps answer your questions.This book would make for a great high school or college graduation gift as it's a simple read and exposes you to value investing and understanding the difference between price and value. Price is what you pay and value is what you get.Also, I encourage you to read his recommended books that he recommends at the end of his book and on his website (The Intelligent Investor, Reading Financial Reports for Dummies, and The Bond Book) just to name a few.

WHY I CHOOSE THIS BOOKI'm familiar with the author's work in general, and I've read books by various family members, therefore reading one of his books is something I was interested in. WHAT I THOUGHT ABOUT THIS BOOKI was really expecting to give this book a higher rating when I went into it, but sadly there were several things that brought the rating to three stars. To be concise, I'm going to give some pros and cons. Pros:*Mr. Wilkerson does a good job at explaining what God's favor is, and what it isn't. In a culture where a lot of people seem to think having God's favor means getting whatever they want, I really appreciated this*The book was written in simple language that is easy to understand, with a lot of biblical accounts backing up what Mr. Wilkerson said, as well as modern-day examples that help make the book relatable*Mr. Wilkerson ends the book by talking about God's unlimited favor, versus His ultimate favor. This part was my favorite as it really made me stop and think about how I live my life Cons:*There were multiple times that I felt like Mr. Wilkerson took verses out of context or interpreted accounts from the Bible in ways that weren't consistent with what was actually being said. Most of these were very small occurrences, but they happened enough times that it lowered the rating of the book for me*Some of the examples of God's favor in modern days that Mr. Wilkerson used rubbed me the wrong way - I didn't agree with how things were handled, or that what we were seeing was actually God's favor being shown. This could very well have been me misinterpreting the stories, but it made me slightly skeptical as I read*I had a few issues with the balance of how the overall book was presented. RATINGI’m giving God's Favor 3 out of 5 stars - Chosen Books graciously gave me a copy so I could review it for y'all. As always, the thoughts are my own.Â

This is a very easy to understand book. It is well written and makes you stop and think about how much God does for us every day. This is a book I will read more than once. Thank you Chosen via NetGalley for the ARC copy of this book. This is my honest opinion.

Like Romeo and Juliet, this brings back memories of Mr. P's freshman English class. It now amazes me howmuch great literature we covered in those months. Like Brothers Karamazov, this drama is often used as anillustration in philosophical discussions. It is among the oldest works to deal with questions such as naturallaw, civil disobedience, conscience, family loyalty, civil authority and the higher law of the gods. My highschool teacher, although liberal in many respects, emphasized that Antigone has nothing to do with feminismas we now know it. It is an anachronism to import such readings into a classic text. Having said that, theremay be some students who have a prejudice against western civilization and the Greek classics. This mayhelp them to get started, because it is a positive portrayal of a female character. Antigone and her sisterIsmene are the daughters of the famous Oedipus. Although Antigone takes place after Oedipus Rex, it wasactually written before the "prequel". King Creon prohibited her brother from being buried. Out of dutyto the higher law of the gods and loyalty to family, she must bury her brother.

Buy the student edition! It is cheaper than the others and I bet it contains nearly all the same content. Easy to understand, thoughtful read, albeit a bit short. It contains some philosophical questions leaving the reader to answer. It moves at a good pace and is clear, there's not a whole lot of hidden messages. Although I purchased this for school, it is a play that I will probably re-read and "get something out of". The only thing is that the picture on the cover on my book is different from the one advertised, so -1 star for that. It's a good read for someone who is newly interested in plays and dramas.

Very useful prefatory comments and probably the English translation truest to the French original. This version maintains the ambiguity that Anouilh seems to have intended. It thus goes far beyond any simple celebration of "resistance," and leaves us with more questions than answers. Excellent book.

There are many ways you could analyze or interpret this book. I really enjoyed it especially since it is so old and we still have some of these same problems today. The use of dialogue is genius and the characters are amazingly well developed in this short play. I personally enjoyed the feminism and how misogyny was not favored by the masses. It was a well written piece and I only wish that we had been able to recover more of Sophocles works.

Easy read, the translation is simple enough to get through this in an hour. Read it for a class but would recommend the story overall.

I am familiar with the and partual to this drama, yet found the translation difficult. It it may be true to the original, but is far from our venecular.

Kindle Version is awful. It formats everything so weird...and reformats it when you are looking for a specific line. You never know where you're at in the book.

Was not hoping for much. The world of books on Amazon is large, and clogged with five star reviews of dreck. This one read like a long short story: you knew more or less where everything was going and it got there quickly with relatively few surprises. But unlike so many books on Amazon, the quality of quitting didn't sag after the first third, and the story didn't run out of ideas in the last third. Everything turned out amazing for everyone, who were all exceptional, which is grating, but in its defence it had honestly telegraphed that likelihood from the beginning. And the protagonists voice and the characterizations kept being warm and funny. Though not so many surprises, and a slight surfeit of twenty-something gee-whiz for this old dude, I enjoyed the enthusiasm, and the commitment to decent writing. I jumped right into the free sample of the next book, liked it and bought it, for far more than this one cost (hmm, how did that happen).

I admit that I picked this up because of the peculiar title. Turns out the characters were just as curious about this bookstore as I was—and rightly so!Set in San Francisco, Sloan does a pretty good caricature of the Bay Area startup scene, and even throws big tech players like Google into the mix—the latter actually plays a surprisingly key role here! I’ve only been living in the Bay Area for about three months now (at the time of this review), but even I had to appreciate the nods to the neighborhoods I’ve visited.Clay Jannon is a semi-fresh college grad hoping to find some footing in a post-Recession jobscape. He’s likeable and relatable—the roommate we’ve all met or had in our early twenties. He’s self-depracting and also not particularly talented. This isn’t a harsh critique of his character, by the way. In fact, he makes this admission several times throughout the novel.But what Clays is really good at is making friends with extremely gifted specialists—all of whom play a part in the larger story....and that leads me to my biggest critique.Because for every obstacle Clay faces, he also “just so happens” to have a major resource at his disposal that can solve the problem. So even though I thought the story was adorably quirky, insightful, and tender, there were a lot of plot points that wrapped up a little too neatly for me.Also, if you happen to be a professional codebreaker, this book will either pique your interest or frustrate you to no end. I am not a professional codebreaker, so I found this aspect of the book both entertaining and suspenseful.My final verdict is that Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore is a whimsical read that’s sure to please book lovers of all backgrounds—but especially if they live in California.

I picked up this book one day because it looked like something that I might enjoy. Then life occurred and it became buried in my TBR stacks and I forgot about it. It wasn't until I was researching books for my book group that I remembered it. Then it was offically chosen and it finally got its turn.I geniunely enjoyed this book. I found myself picturing the story while reading it and I longed to see this bookstore in real life. The idea of a bookstore containing unusual books that most people have never heard of is exciting to me. It definitely makes me wonder what gems may be hidden in my nearest bookstore.I am rating this book Four Stars because it drug in some spots and was predictable. I enjoyed it but I did have a few moments where I felt like I was reading an advertisement rather than a novel. The characters were likeable and relatable. The premise was fantastic and I would love to find a bookstore like the one from the story. This is the first book that I have read by this author and I will be looking into his other titles. My favorite line in this book is, "And if you think that's cool, you're over thirty." Robin Sloan has successfully written a book chock full of fun, particularly if you are a millennial with a propensity to change the world though technology and perhaps live forever drinking kale smoothies. I was a little disappointed as I searched for an underlying story, but continued reading enjoying the delightful way the romance and adventure unfolded without one. I appreciated Sloan's references to a fantasy task force, but truthfully got a little bogged down when he used pages of fantasy metaphor. But then, I'm over thirty.

Lately, I've come across some real clinkers -- so much so that I sent out an email query to solicit recommendations for something good to read. A buddy out in CA recommended this one, and I'm really glad he did.Sloan's story is tight, well-paced, and interesting. He uses language beautifully. There's humor and its more dignified cousin, wit. There are solid, vivid characters. Even minor characters are painted with enough detail to be interesting.One thing: something about the title made me think of a YA (or even younger) novel, but while the... romantic aspects of this book are very understated (and thus appropriate, I think, for a younger audience) I don't the plot or characters would be that appealing to the under eighteen set. Maybe I'm wrong about that, and in any case it's not a criticism, merely an observation. Anyway, it's a book adults will enjoy.Another thing: something about the title also implied a fantasy novel, but, while quirky, nothing in the book actually violates Reality As We Know It. Fantasy novels figure in the story to a modest degree, but this isn't a fantasy novel. You certainly don't have to be "into" fantasy to enjoy the book.One final thing: I thought I guessed the ending. Then I thought I guessed another, equally plausible ending. I was delightfully wrong both times.

In one of the books in this series there is interview information with Patsy Ramsey about jonBenet having a heart drawn on her hand. Patsy was asked if her daughter ever drew on herself. She says no,but if she ever did she would just remove it with NAIL POLISH remover. In one interview Patsy says “ I saw she had a heart drawn on her forehead or on her hand”. Did you notice the heart on her hand looks like someone actually tried to remove it? Soooo, in one of the crime scene photos, I spot a bottle of nail polish remover on the kitchen counter. The top is even left off. You can see the little black lid sitting inches in front of it. That stuff stinks horribly. Someone was in a hurry and didn’t put the lid back on that stinky bottle after trying to remove ink marks. (Which by the way, I don’t know many people that would use it to remove ink). It’s toxic. We know that is what Patsy used.

I'm hooked. This book is full of information I've not read anywhere. Great time line of Events! Looking forward to the last installment.

I've read 12 books so far on this maddening case including all 5 books so far in this series. I agree with other reviewers that these books contain some details not available elsewhere. As in all of their works there is a great deal of verbiage to slog through but for Ramsey case fans these e-books are essential reading. I feel they were way off base with the Amanda Knox case but are spot on with this case. One item that bugs me about all of the books (save one) on this case and all 7 documentaries I've watched is not giving enough weight to the puzzling fact that John Ramsey doesn't first remove that hideous garrote around his daughters neck when finding her at 1:05 pm that terrible day. That's the first thing a father would do before checking her vital signs! There is no rational argument to explain this callous act. The garrote was still wrapped tightly aroundJonBenet's neck when she was checked into the morgue at 10:00 pm that evening. Those still supporting the intruder theory don't have a problem with this? Of course the answer to this seeming puzzle is pretty obvious is it not? I'm currently reading book 3 of the After Christmas series and strongly recommend this e-book as well.

I love this series! In depth analysis of this unsolved murder case. Can't wait for book 3

Excellent book for my 10 year old grandson. He loves building and wants to learn as much as possible about the science behind it. This gives a clear written picture regarding engineering, followed up with experiments to do on your own to visually learn the concept. I purchased a used copy that arrived in excellent, like new condition.

Extremely well written and researched, superbly illustrated with a down-to-earth presentation.

This is a very helpful guide for teachers who want to give their K-6 students a broad overview of urban infrastructure. The writing is clear and crisp, and there are a lot of accompanying diagrams and examples.

A practical and fundamental look at complex building methods. This book has brief but factual details and some "labs" that can be done at home with very few materials. I believe the intended audience is for middle and high school students.

I found this book easy to read, with excellent pictures. We need our young people interested in engineering and understand what it means. Fascinating! Fantastic books for young engineers (to be)!

Interesting, educational book about bees, and the problems faced to save them. I especially liked the chapters where the author described the actions of farmers to increase the population of not only honey and bumble bees, but more unknown types just as essential to plants. The theory that plants evolved to attract bees, and vice versa is well explained and compelling. The book is too short, and pictures not only drawings would have been nice. Specific instructions on how to help bees by growing certains plants could be helpful. I noticed in my own garden a tree whose flowers are long lasting and attracts numerous bees everyday, while other flowers are all but deserted. Ultimately, it will be down to farmers and gardeners not beekeepers to save bees, by creating environments suitable for them, and altering their practices to preserve them. Those alfalfa farmers described in the book are the trailblazers of the trend. They will need to not only farm the land but become beekeepers, as my father was on his farm.

My husband has been keeping bees for over 30 years, so I was uncertain if this would be a good gift for him. But he loved it! He said he learned a great deal and enjoyed the book tremendously.

Who knew the world of bees could bee so fascinating!

This was an eye opening book for me as a new beekeeper. I heard the author interviewed on NPR and immediately ordered a copy. I am now thrilled when I look around and spot native bees wherever I am. The stories in the book and history of bees that we have studied I find fascinating.

This is a wonderfully written book that takes you on a poetic, brilliant, and educational journey of the bee. I could not put it down!A must read for anyone interested in the plight of the bee and pollinating world. I especially enjoyed the literary references.
