I love Tomie dePaola books for children. I purchased most of his book for our library at school. The students love them even the 8th graders. I have been to Barletta, Italy many times, because my grandfather family was from a city just 20 miles north. I can't wait to go back to find out about the Giant of Barletta. Love Barletta great food and love the people.

This is a terrific Italian folk tale. Tomie DePaola has written some great tales and this is one of my favorites. I purchased this book as a gift for my cousins who just had a new baby. The parents loved that I chose a book and were happy that it expressed their Italian culture.

This story comes from Italy and is a great experience for children. In reading this book, they learn about one of the tales of other countries and towns, passed down from generation to generation. In this story, an old woman and the Mysterious Giant statue save the village of Barletta, Italy with some quick wit, good acting, and cooperation. This exercises the imaginations of the children reading it. My favorite character was Zia Concetta. I would recommend this book to anyone.

The Giant, a statue that comes to life and saves a village from invading forces, brings the human dimension to sculptural forms. Our art museum educators use this charming story for young children who visit and tour the museum as an introduction to public art. After hearing the story, children engage with sculpture and experience the medium in a new way.

I heard about cell salts a few years back and was intrigued at the concept. I went on Amazon and purchased three different cell salts books. I rarely refer to the other two because this book is all I need. It is well written, most thorough and the layout makes it very easy to find what you are looking for.The first part of the book is a history of cell salts. The author devotes the next section to an overview of 'families' of cell salts. He then goes into great detail on each cell salt, one by one. This makes for fascinating reading, especially for someone like me who had no knowledge of cell salts before. The second half of the book is taken up with individual symptoms and remedies and is very well done.Mr. McCabe emphasizes that we should not wait until an event happens that might require the use of cell salts but to familiarize ourselves with the cell salts before the fact. That is very, very true.A few months after acquiring the book and purchasing the twelve cell salts, an occasion arose that gave me the opportunity to see if this cell salt business really worked. I was sitting at my computer and realized that I didn't feel so hot. Around my eye sockets, I felt flushy, my tummy was queasy and I was aching here and there. I thought "Oh no... the flu." Well, grabbed the book, looked up flu and.. there it was. It mentioned taking 4 different cell salts for 'stubborn cases of flu' in water, sipping the mixture frequently until symptoms abate. Well, that's the remedy I went for.. no half measures, ya know?I remember thinking, "yeah.. right" as I mixed up the concoction. I announced to the family that I was sick and they were on their own and went to my bedroom to crash. I sipped like crazy for an hour or so. Then I fell asleep for 2 - 3 hrs and woke up feeling human. Mixed up another glass full and even managed to eat some dinner. I still felt a little weakish and unsteady but I had lost that 'green' feeling. I thought I had it made but, the next day, I had a few unsteady spells so sipped on a few more glasses. By the day after that, I was right as rain. It was amazing.Since then, I have used the flu cure once last year for myself again and just this past week for my husband. He said his stomach was queasy, he felt lousy and his forehead felt warm to me. He thought I was nuts when I suggested my 'sip water/cellsalts' cure...(I had my fingers crossed ... lol). He sat in the recliner, head down, all listless. I sat right with him reminding him every few minutes to 'SIP'! After about a 1/2 hour his head was erect and he even commented about something on tv. A little later, he said his stomach was ok. He finished that glass and sipped on another the rest of the nite. He even ate a good dinner. I kept a glass of water/cell salts in the fridge for him to sip on throughout the next day but he was fine.I think the trick with cell salts is to apply them as soon as an event happens or at the first sign of a cold or flu or headache. They are amazing little things, these cell salts. I am so grateful that Mr. McCabe took the time to write a book like this that can be used by the amateur (like me) or the more advanced student.

This is the 4th book I've bought on cells salts & is by far THE BEST!! It has more detailed instruction on how to administer cell salts for different ailments or injuries. Most other books just contain a list of problems with a corresponding list of cell salts. It offers a history of cell salts & how bio-chemic medicine relates to homeopathy & allopathy. I've even decided to come back & purchase a Kindle version of the book to travel with me (it also offers a much better search function than paperback).As an Amazon customer, I always like to read the reviews but for this book I disregarded the 1 star reviews because I personally have found a great deal of relief using the cell salts. This is why I own 4 books on the subject & now all 12 of the individual cell salts in the 6x potency. My only problem with Cell Salts is that I can not find a health care provider (homeopathic or allopathic) who knows about bio-chemic medicine.If you're looking for an excellent reference on the use of cell salts - consider this book over others!

I like the information provided. But from reading and usingThe Biochemic Prescriber by Prashant Shah I feel it makes using cell salts more difficult than it has to be. Don't discount it, just choose what you can use. Don't really like it in Kindle format, because there is no index, and you have to search through search results when using the search box to find what you need.

I read all the reviews before buying this book and I'm glad that I purchased this one. Very in depth but easy to understand. Great buy I will not need to buy 10 more books on cell salts, like you have to do with some subjects. They are either so, bla bla bla in depth that you are board or lacking in real substantial information. This one book has it all and will be my end all book on the subject.

An excellent in-depth book on the various uses of the 12 cell salts. It has an index that makes it pretty easy to find what cell salt works for what symptom or ailment.

The Healing Echo is a very good book and I highly recommend it.Great for beginners and everyone else for that matter, with complete information on all the cell salts.

Awesome book! It helped me navigate through a cold last week and today a headache (and I suffer from chronic headaches so this is amazing). I am sold on cell salts and I love how the author offers so many fine details to various symptoms to help pick the right salt. I also have his book on flower remedies and Practical Homeopathy. I really enjoy this authors approach and writing style, very useful information.

Vinton McCabe proves to be masterful in his understanding of tissue salts and his ability to educate his readers neatly and thoroughly.. This is the best book I own on the subject and is a wonderful read. I highly recommend it.

While my traveling days are still ahead of me (always more of the world to see), Koreatown by Deuki Hong and Matt Rodbard definitely points my internal compass to Korea. The book is peppered with little interviews and asides from others who share the love of the Korean cuisine. The stories are lively, the history and love emanating from the little looks into Korean food are enthralling. I really enjoyed that the stories are not just from Koreans or Korean-Americans, they really run the gamut of different people who are bit by the bug of Korean food. Just a fantastic read.The books is set up like a regular cook book, starting with appetizers (and banchan) and then progressing to various categories of noodles, meats, drinks, and desserts. The recipes are fun and seem like something one could actually produce in kitchen. The "pantry" section is informative, clear, and if you can't find a local supplier, the authors even give you online options to order from. I personally am excited about all the banchan recipes because I discovered Korean food a few years ago and sometimes want those little plates with just rice to even out a tiring day. Now I can indulge. Especially since most of the recipes are made ahead of time, my fridge is about to get funky!! I can't wait to make the "Dakgangjeong" (Koreatown fried chicken) and my own mandu.If you read the Introduction, you will get some great advice from the authors and a fun way to look at the cookbook. The photography is all candid, from their trips around the country eating Korean food. I love this idea, especially in the technology age. I feel like the lack of staging really makes you feel like part of the experience that they are presenting. I especially enjoy it because we all know the various tricks used in photography and those are refreshingly absent. The pictures are what the food really looks like as it comes out from the kitchen. And it looks delicious. I admit that I looked over the cookbook during my morning coffee and was jealous. I didn't even want Korean food at the time, but man, that changed my feelings quite quickly. Le sigh. Guess I'm taking a trip up to the Korean restaurant and grocery store.I received this book from Blogging for Books for this review.

In order to get my head around Korean food, I purchased this book before a 2 1/2 week trip to Korea. Not just a cookbook, it has a lot of information, including an introduction before every recipe and short essays like "How to Cook Korean Food at Home Without Pissing Off Your Neighbors." The book also has commentary (and in some cases, recipes) from culinary superstars such as Eric Ripert and David Chang.Bear in mind that, as Hong states, this book focuses on the food found in K-towns and Korean-influenced restaurants around the US. So you'll find that the some of the recipes are riffs on Korean food rather than traditional recipes. But they are all true to the source - this isn't a "fusion" cookbook containing recipes for Korean Tacos and the like.The Bossam (crispy pork belly) recipe is "the bomb", and the cooking technique really makes it happen. Rather than cooking small chunks on a tabletop grill, which was what I experienced in Korea, Hong's method calls for boiling and then roasting a 3# piece in the oven. What makes the end result so killer is his method of pricking the skin with hundred of holes to help render the fat and crisp the skin. Cooking it in the oven also means that a tabletop grill is freed up for bulgogi or kabli or a hotpot or whatever.If you plan to make the Bossam (and you should), here's a tip that worked for me. Hong recommends using the point of a sharp knife or skewer to poke the tiny holes in the skin. However, you aren't supposed to push through the skin and into the meat. I found this difficult to accomplish given the amount of pressure required to penetrate the tough pigskin. My solution was to use an oversized safety pin to do the job. I took a large, 2.5" safety pin and bent the prong to a 90 degree angle. I then gripped the pin by the body, placing my thumb on the end directly above the prong. From there, it's fairly easy to puncture the skin by focusing your force on your thumb. In addition, using the short safety pin gives you more control than something longer like a skewer or knife, and once you puncture the skin, your knuckles will stop you from penetrating deeper into the meat. I've attached a few pictures of what I did; I purchased the safety pins through Amazon.So anyway, it's a great, fun-to-read, cookbook. And I know I'll be returning to the pork belly technique for the rest of my life.FYI - If you are planning a trip to Korea, or are just really interested in Korean food, I found the following resources useful during my trip:- For traditional Korean cooking, I have enjoyed "Maangchi's Real Korean Cooking." If you doubt her quest for authenticity, she suggests fermenting kimchi in jars that are placed on top of an electric blanket. This mimics the conditions of the heated floors that are found in traditional Korean homes. Despite this attention to detail, her recipes are simple and straightforward.- "Eating Korea" by Graham Holiday. Having lived in Korea in the mid-90's, the journalist/author returns and travels across Korea to document traditional foods and dying culinary techniques.- Smart phone app: "Korean Food Guide Book" published by the Korea Foundation. It has some basic information about ingredients, methods, and tastes, but I found the alphabetical listing of ingredients to be invaluable. The press of a button translates an ingredient name from English to Korean characters (Hunminjeongeum) to the Romanized word/pronunciation. Many times I didn't know exactly what I was eating, so I'd hand the server my iPhone, they'd select the word from the Hunminjeongeum list, and then I'd translate their selection into English. It was also great because I could then take a snapshot of the screen for future reference.- Final tip if you travel to Korea: drink as much makgeolli as you can! Pronounce it like "broccoli" without the "r" and they'll understand you well enough.

Been on a major Korean food kick thanks to this cookbook. The braised tofu recipe is the best tofu I've ever eaten, and I've eaten a lot of tofu. The sesame spinach is simple and perfect, a staple. I make it turn my back for a minute and it's gone. Beautiful photos and writing. Highly recommended.

I've since made many delightful bowls of soup, kimchi far better than what I can buy at the nearest Hmart, and my pajeon is awesome.

This cookbook is amazing. The recipes I've tried are so good. And the book provides so much information. I was able to go to the store and know exactly what to look for because of the detail on the ingredients. From someone who has no Korean background this cookbook gave me so much new insight into Korean food.

The fourteen fairy tale-inspired science fiction tales are all fresh and inventive and lots of fun to read, from Sarra Cannon’s Matrix-meets-Robin Hood spin on the classic tale (“Loxley”) to Christine Pope’s “The Cyrano Solution,” which is an epic take on “The Princess and the Frog.” The “inspirations” for the stories run the gamut from a trio of Russian tales to “The Goose Girl,” and while there’s a Cinderella story here, it’s quite unlike the classic tale. The writers all seem to be having a lot of fun, but there are some lessons to be had here as well—revenge and redemption figure large in several of the stories.There’s also nice world building. Some of the stories, like those by Anthea Sharp and Christine Pope, take place in between “episodes” of their long-running series, while others are “one-offs” the writers admit were a genre stretch. Moreover, while it’s possible to see some of the influences on the stories, the writers have augmented their ideas with other bits and pieces of lore and myth and folktale. And so, we have Grimm’s fairy tales coexisting with Pinocchio and Washington Irving’s Sleepy Hollow. Wrapping a science fiction skin around these old stories makes them feel as shiny as the titanium hull of a space craft.If you like science fiction and fairy tales, this is a boxed set you NEED to get.

I’ve always loved fairy tales growing up and as I got older they sort of blended in together. These stories definitely give my beloved tales a new twist. I love different and unique ways to write a story and this anthology book is no exception. I loved each story, some more than others but I’m a true fan. I got to experience the world of new authors and can’t wait to read other books they have written. I hope you enjoy these stories as I did.

This amazing Anthology gives you 14 great faerie tales with a twist of science fiction. It’s so interesting to read. One of my favorites is “Echo” by Nikki Jefford. A Pinocchio twist in a sci-fi setting. It was so interesting reading this new world of Echo and Boomer, her creator. Boomer a brilliant mechanic creates Echo, a cyborg with incredible intelligence and human like feelings. Echo finds her self in a few sticky situations. It’s a great read. I love the idea of mixing sci-fi and faerie tales. Definitely worth getting this anthology.

I haven't finished the book but I had the pleasure to read Loxley by Sarra Cannon and wow. This is a different kind of story for Cannon, but I really really enjoyed it. I hope she continues this story in a series or the very least writes other stories in this genre.The story had a Ready Player One feel to it. It kept me turning those pages and I was never disappointed with each turn. I wanted to know more about this world and about Loxley. Like her story, her background. More importantly I wanted to know more about Ghost and his story. I know there is a good one there.

I absolutely loved this box set. The stories were interesting and kept me coming back for me. I never knew how much I needed sci-fi fairytale retelling sin my life.

A couple of these stories are very good.. I like to be able to guess which story it's take from.. Most of these are totally unrecognizable..

Good anthology. Echo -by Nikki Jefford, was my favorite in the set, a sweet ending for the Pinocchio inspired story. The trouble Echo gets her naughty self into was surprising! True.love -by Alethea Kontis -a take on Sleeping Beauty in a sort of gamers future & The Star Dragon’s Curse -by Alexia Purdy -a interesting take off of the Headless Horseman, were the next favorites in the book for me. There are some other good novellas as well. I would have liked to see a bit of expansion on a few of the short stories that would have enhanced them more. But as a whole, deffinitely worth reading.

Some stories I truly enjoyed, while others just seemed out there to me. The stories were fairy tale retellings, some quite unique and told from a very original perspective. The stories were quick to read. I will be honest and say I hope some authors will continue with their stories!! Some of my favorites were Echo by Nikki Jefford, True Love by Alethea Konlis, low your Planet Down by Shawntelle Madison, The Cryana Solution by Christine Pope just to name a few. You will not be disappointed in this collection of short stories.

I enjoy fantasy fairy art and this deck with pretty realistic animal pictures didn’t seem super exciting to me...Until I saw it! It’s absolutely Gorgeous!! I am ones again in awe of Paulina’s talent and an incredible work put into this deck! Each card is a window into it’s own magical world! A beautifully written explanation booklet too, with clear and inspiring messages. The cards are sturdy and smooth,a pleasure to work with! I am definitely buying this deck for my friends for the holidays!PS: Couldn’t wait till morning to take a better photo in a daylight, wanted to share my excitement now!

Gorgeous deck. Really spoke to me the moment I pulled my first spread.After about a month of using this deck I can say that it does not read like a standard RWS; superimposing those meanings is not the best route to take. Spiritsong has its own vocabulary and it is decidedly a bit sweet. I have found this deck to be an invaluable tool to elevate above a situation to see potential for growth, change, and transformation in a positive direction. Unique spreads seem to come to me with this deck, likely as a result of its unique energy and card layout. This has been good for my own personal growth, but also to provide positive insight for others.

Wow this deck speaks to you in a very magical way, be sure to listen to its messages. The artwork is captivating! The animal energy is very powerful and beautifully paired with the card meanings. A must have for any tarot reader! So happy to have this in my hands.

The cards just arrived and are even more beautiful than expected! Obviously a lot of thought was put into the animal and art chosen for each card - they are perfectly symbolic of the meaning. The cards themselves are stiff enough to stay in great condition but not so stiff you can't shuffle easily. I love everything about this deck!! Highly recommend

I've been eagerly awaiting this deck and was just able to flip through it. The art is beautiful and the card meanings are still based on the traditional RWS system but the messages are far gentler. Most of my current decks and readings don't pull any punches so I'm grateful to have this deck in my repertoire for the times when I'm really looking for helpful healing energy. I can definitely see using this a lot both on its own and in conjunction with other decks to give positive, healing guidance to situations. I see this deck more useful as a holistic tool than divinatory one, but that could just be me :)

I have to admit, this deck EXCEEDED my expectations. I expected soft and beautiful watercolor/ink images of animals, but the deck is so beautifully executed, printed (the colors are soft, but still very vibrant), and clever that I am just blown away.It's based on RW, but reimagined with the characteristics (both physical and symbolically, drawn from many traditions) of animals. It's definitely a positive and gentle deck- there are definitions for card reversals, but the way the deck is designed is that an animal appears in a reading to guide you through whatever you are facing, good or bad.The cards are on lovely sturdy cardstock, mostly matte, and are a little hard to shuffle at first but break in pretty quickly. The printing is beautiful- I especially love that the background and border for each image is slightly different- some cards are ecru, some a pale blue, some a very very pale green, some off white, etc. I love the look it gives the cards. The cards also feature two keywords on the bottom- normally I'm not a fan of that because I read intuitively, but since this deck is a slightly different take on traditional tarot and tarot imagery, I find the keywords useful.The little white book is 105 pages and nicely bound with full-color covers. It features definitions for each of the cards, reverse message, plus keywords for both the card and reverse. It's a *little* too sweet for me (every animal used its positive attributes to guide you and assist you) but I think if you combine it with a basic level of tarot card meanings, you can do some great readings with it.If you are new to tarot and are a little put off by things like the "death" card and "devil" card- this deck doesn't have them. It's a completely gentle deck, and I would recommend it for kids, if they are asking for a deck of their own.I can't recommend this deck enough- originally I purchased it because it looked pretty and I don't have any animal-based decks in my collection (not a fan of photo-realism or cartoon imagery) but it's really exceeded my expectations and I'm so excited to learn how to read with it. I mainly use tarot and oracle decks as a tool for meditation and insight (I'm Buddhist and usually align the meanings of the cards with key themes in Buddhist philosophy and practice- so I use the cards to "quiz" myself on my Buddhist practice as well as get some insight into looking at things from a different perspective) and I know I'll be reaching for this deck often- nothing but positive energy.I can't recommend this deck enough.

This charming deck has soft and sweet energy, sure to become a collectors deck as well as a serene meditation tool and a source of real healing inspiration. I received it and had to buy two more immediately to share with animal and art lovers! It doesn't get any better!

Beautiful set of cards. I pulled two right away and they seemed spot on for what I am going through right now!! My only issue, is not with the cards, but with Amazon. I pre-ordered these and somehow I didn't get them when they came out. I had to order them again.
